Langtang Valley Trek

The Langtang Valley Trek (also known as Glacier Valley Trek) takes place in the nearest area straight north from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. So, for those who are in short of time, the Langtang Valley Trek is highly recommendable. Although so near from Kathmandu, it offers a incomparable beautiful range of the central Himalaya of Nepal, rugged glaciers, moraines, extraordinary vegetations, unique flora and fauna with lively Tamang & Sherpa villages crafted by the magnificent monasteries and many more.
Importantly, Yala Cheese Factory, Langtang National Park Headquarter and Kyangin Gompa are the major highlights of the trek. The trek gets more charming with a frequent encounter with the herds of yaks and sheep en route. Above all, a satellite visit to Tsergo Ri from Kyangin Gompa is never-to-miss one. It offers an awesomely panoramic view of Langtang Himal, Mt. Langtang Ri, Langsisa, Ganjala Peak, Langtang Lirung and so on from the top of the Tsergo Ri.
Actually, the Langtang area offers three different trekking packages like Langtang Valley Trek, Tamang Heritage Trail Trek and Gosaikunda Trek. However, the Langtang Valley Trek is the most interesting and enjoyable one.

1 Day 01:ARRIVAL AT KATHMANDU (1,300 m)
After arrival at KATHMANDU airport, welcome, meeting and assistance at the airport and transfer to hotel – Evening, a briefing on the trek shall be organized in the hotel so as to enable you to enjoy the trek without any major problems – Rest and overnight at hotel.
2 Day 02:IN KATHMANDU – sightseeing & preparation – obtain necessary permits (must be a govt working day)
AM: After breakfast, visit KATHMANDU DURBAR SQUARE and SWAYAMBHUNATH in the morning. After lunch, undertake final preparation for trek; e.g., checking and demonstration of equipments which will be used during trek. If any one needs to buy or get things on hire, our staff will assist you with their company. Evening, welcome dinner and overnight at hotel.
3 Day 03:DRIVE KATHMANDU - SYABRUBESI (1,460 m): 135 km: 6-7 HRS
Early morning, a scenic drive starts to Syabrubesi with 3 different options of driving routes. One is via Galchi (longest), the 2nd one is via Kakani (shorter) and the last one via Tokha road (shortest). Depending upon the road condition during the monsoon time, we may choose one of them. During the monsoon, the 1st route via Galchi is the best. In the normal time, Tokha route is often used. The drive via Galchi is good until Trishuli Bazaar and it is the Trishuli Bazaar where both of the other routes (Kakani and Tokha ones) meet and continue to Dhunche. In other words, all routes pass by Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche. Dhhunche is the head quarter of the Rasuwa District (one of the Govt. administrative units among the 75 in total). The route via Kakani is called Pasang Lhamu Highway. It goes to Rasuwagadhi (Nepal-Tibet border point) via Syabrubesi where we end our motor journey. Over night at Syabrubesi.
4 Day 04:TREK SYABRUBESI – LAMA HOTEL (2,455 m): 5-6 HRS
Today, our trek starts. Today’s walk is mild. We follow a downhill trail leading to Bhote Koshi River and after a short trek we reach the Syabrubesi Village. We can enjoy our lunch here. Then, a mild downhill walk will take us to Rimche (2,400 m) and our further walk for about 10-15 minutes and we finally reach Changdam, also popularly known as Lama Hotel. On the way, we might be rewarded with a rare sighting of the wild animals like red pandas, various types of monkeys and bear. Overnight at Lama Hotel.
5 Day 05:LAMA HOTEL - LANGTANG (3,430 m): 5-6 HRS
Morning, we walk through the green lush rhododendron forest (if you are here in March/April). The forest looks so dense and green as it is full of moss and its trees are covered by the wild ferns and orchids. During our walk, we keep enjoying a a quick sight of Mt Langtang Lirung off and on. The ongoing trail takes us to Ghoda Tabela (3,000 m), where once a Tibetan Settlement Project used to be in operation, but presently there is the Nepalese Army Post. From here, a mild uphill walk starts with a wide open the valley. We continue passing by some small, beautiful settlements with pasture land used by the local herders who keep migrating here with their animals for grazing purpose in warm monsoon season every year. By the end of the day, we reach Langtang Village, a typical Tibetan village with a lovely farmland growing potatoes, buckwheat and barley. It is here there is the Headquarter of Langtang National Park. If time permits, we are welcome to visit the Headquarter and the monastery nearby. Overnight at Langtang Village.
6 Day 06:LANGTANG - KEYNJING GOMPA (3,870 m): 3-4 HOURS
After breakfast, an uphill trail through the small villages and yak pastures takes us to a wide area where a valley starts widening and the scenery becomes more panoramic. By continuing the trail along the top of the ridge with a mild climb, it will take us to Mundu and Sindum villages. Actually, the massive earthquake of 2015 heavily destroyed almost all villages in this area including Langtang Valley, Mundu and Keynjing Gompa. Our steady walk will take us to the famous cheese factory of the Langtang area. From here, a short, but uphill walk will take us to Keynjing Gompa. It is here we will have a nice lunch. The view around here is tantalizing. Mt Langtang, Mt Langtang Lirung, Ganjalapeak, Mt Tserko- Ri, Mt Langsisari are some the major attractions of this area. If time allows, explore around the village and the Kyanjin Gompa. Over night at Keynjing Gompa.
7 Day 07:FREE DAY FOR EXPLORATION
Today, we take it a full rest day. As a part of the rest day, a mild hike can be arranged specially to Tsergo Ri (5,033 m) located at a distance of 4 hours uphill walk to the east of Keynjing Gompa. It is highly recommendable. From here, a close up view of the beautiful snow peaks including Langtang Lirung (7,234 m) and Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m) is beyond description. A hike to the Yala Cheese Factory or simply spend the day exploring the scenery around is also an option. Overnight at Keynjing Gompa
8 Day 08:KEYNJIN GOMPA – LAMA HOTEL (2,455 m): 6-7 HRS
From today, our return journey starts. We trek back to Lama Hotel following the same trail which we used to reach Keynjin Gompa. As the trail pass through the nearby Tibetan border, Tamang villages like Langtang Village, Thyangyap Village and Ghoda Tabela in this area portray typically Tibetan lifestyle. Late afternoon, we reach Lama Hotel. Overnight at Lama Hotel.
9 Day 09:LAMA HOTEL - SYBRUBESI (1,460 m): 5-6 HRS
Today is the last day of our trek. Our destination is Syabrubeshi. We keep on following the same trail we used while going up to Lama hotel. We arrive at Rimche and cross a suspension bridge over the Langtang river and keep walking through the lush green forest. En route, we are invited by several hotels to have an overnight. Late afternoon, Syabrubeshi opens up before us. Overnight at Syabrubeshi.
10 Day 10:DRIVE SYABRUBESI - KATHMANDU (1,300 m): 7-8 HRS
After breakfast, we can take a bus/private vehicle to drive back to Kathmandu as per our package. The drive goes the same way back via beautiful townhships like Dhunche, Trishuli Bazaar and Galchi/Kakani/Tokha and reach Kathmandu by completing almost 135 km distance. We will arrive at Kathmandu late afternoon and transfer to your hotel. Evening, our guide or representative will take you to a farewell dinner in the evening. Full rest in the hotel.
11 Day 11:DEPARTURE FOR HOME
Free until the departure time for airport. Ttransfer to our international airport as per your flight schedule and fly back home.
